Is your heart lonely, afraid, and aching? Try these 3 heart medicines

There are three primary spiritual medicines for your heart. Which one do you need most right now?

  1. Sympathy
  2. Validation
  3. Encouragement

Sympathy

Sympathy is spiritual medicine when your heart is aching and broken.

You might be grieving a loss — either of a loved one, or of an opportunity.

The things you say when you need sympathy sound like this:

“It’s just too tough. This is impossible. I can’t take it.”

When you need sympathy, you need to hear:

  • You sound so sad.
  • You must be devastated.
  • I can see you’re upset.
  • I’m so sorry that happened.

When you’ve received enough sympathy, you’ll re-calibrate back to your everyday self. You’ll still remember and feel your loss, but your sadness won’t paralyze you any more.

Validation

Validation is spiritual medicine when your heart is lonely, and you are feeling unheard and invisible.

You might be offering up great ideas and solutions at home and at work, but nobody’s listening. No one is interested in your products and services.

When you need validation, you might catch yourself saying things like this:

“They all hate me. They never invite me. They’re blocking me. I’m not getting anywhere with them.”

When you need validation, you need to hear:

  • That is a great idea.
  • You are making sense.
  • You are creative.
  • You know how to solve problems.
  • You are important.

When you’ve had sufficient quantities of validation, you believe it, and you act upon it. You take initiative, and you even stop asking other people for their opinions; you just go ahead and set to work.

Encouragement

Encouragement is spiritual medicine when your heart is afraid, and you’re feeling doubtful and frozen.

You might be on the brink of starting something new. You’re at the threshold, but you can’t take the next step. You can see it, but you can’t do it.

When you need encouragement, you could hear yourself say:

“I’m super stuck. I’m lost. I am in a flat spin. I’m so confused.”

When you need encouragement, you need to hear:

  • I believe in you.
  • You can do it.
  • Go for it!
  • What’s the first, tiniest step you can take?
  • I’ll stand here with you.
  • You are not alone.

When you’ve had the right amount of encouragement, you take the first step, accomplish it, and then break the second step into bite-sized pieces so you can handle it on your own.

When you’ve really had enough encouragement, your energy is high before, during, and after the task. You’re also ready to teach other people how to do the task, too.

How to Obtain Spiritual Heart Medicine

Identify which medicine(s) you need, and write down the parts of the “what you need to hear” script.

Hand it to someone you trust, and say:

“Please, read this aloud to me. I need to hear it.”

Get calm.

Face them, give them a nod, and then listen with your whole heart.

It doesn’t matter that you wrote the words down.

It doesn’t even matter if they stumble on the words when they read them.

This is the medicine you need. Take it into your heart.

The next time you hear someone else slip into those same complaining phrases again and again, check to see if they need Heart Medicine, too.

Healing hearts around the world, let’s go for it!

Peace,

Shan
